How to Keep Your Finger on the Pulse of Social Media Platforms

June 6, 2014 by Alison Engelhardt Leave a Comment

social media management

The reality of social media? It is a commitment. Building awareness, perpetuating your brand, expanding your reach – these goals are attainable via such versatile platforms – you just need to get your arms around them.

And that’s where great tools come in. Like any DIY project you need a box full of the right ones which are appropriately calibrated for success. There’s quite a spectrum of social media tools out there and likely more that are even faster and better on the horizon; but these are some of our favorites to help you know what’s happening while providing the ability to efficiently track, respond, and measure value.

Know What’s Happening

There’s a world wide web out there flooded with conversations, so how can you “eavesdrop” on what is being said about what you want to know?

Your most down and dirty tool would be Google Alerts. The price is right (free) and a simple search query on the site will send you email alerts whenever your company name is mentioned online.

A more robust tool to keep you in the know is Social Mention. You can enter your brand name into the search bar to retrieve a list of all the places you have been mentioned online — this detail also includes ratings.

Have the Ability to Post and Respond

Two of the forerunners in this area are SproutSocial and HootSuite. Both offer the dashboard approach to social media management so you can see your platforms, schedule your posts, and even assign tasks. The scheduling is of course a huge component because it allows your company to pre-program an entire campaign strategy over a planned timeframe. And there’s nothing not to like about being able to track engagement metrics across platform with SproutSocial!

So what’s the Limelight at the end of the tunnel? Keep your content fresh and equip yourself with the means to remain connected and loyal to the conversation. And that’s where great tools come in.
